Baby Jake

10 years ago today we lost our baby. I was 18 weeks pregnant and had to give birth to a baby boy who died in utero. Lessons can be learned through any trial, and I am grateful for what I learned through this one. Steve and I visited his grave today and all I could think of was our eternal family. We WILL see him again. Just knowing that I have a child on the other side already, is more motivation to live a life worthy of being with him again. I am truly grateful

for the knowledge and blessings of an eternal family.

featherweight

You know those thought provoking questions children ask? Those questions that are difficult to find a quick answer to and happen in the most random places? Well, Trevor is and has always been the expert on asking such questions. Helping me carry out groceries at the store, "Mom, exactly how much does a feather weigh?" I tried to throw the old "depends on the feather," but he is a persistent kid. For anyone who wants to know- the average weight of a feather is - .00125 pounds (I realize this is debatable)

. Thanks for making me think, Trev.

New Carpet- Spider toes

After having new carpet installed (Be careful what you wish for-moving the whole house was a chore,)we have seen 2 spiders on separate occasions. I was explaining to Ryder that maybe the spiders were mad since we upset their living quarters when the carpet was ripped out. Ryder cut me off and with full conviction said this; "The spiders are excited we have new carpet, they are just excited to feel it!"
Ryder is a very thoughtful person, even thinking of spiders feelings.
Either way, the spiders have got to go:)

Lot O' Love

How much do your children love you? Well.....I am loved 60 degrees and 44 miles per hour, according to Ryder. I count my lucky stars to be loved so much!

Erasure rocks!

While cleaning my room and jamming to my ipod, Trevor comes in and asks "IS that EIGHTIES?!" He just as well should have said "Is that a skunk?" by the look on his face. Are you kidding me? Erasure is awesome! Aren't they a classic? Geez he makes me feel old!! I'm pretty sure I felt the same way about Don Williams....

Dang funny bone!

Ryder accidentally dropped his bowl of dinner and blamed it on his funny bone! "My funny bone did it."
I should try that one next time:)

Goodbye Space Shuttle Program

The boys and I were reading through the news reports of Atlantis' landing. After checking out some videos of the International Space Station, and talking about what it would be like to live in space, Ryder asked a poignant question; "Do they say 'keeee.....koooo' when they are in space?" Trying to wrap my brain around what in the world (or space) he was talking about, I asked the typical mom question; "what do you think Ryder?" He confidently explained that Darth Vader lives in space, and Darth says "keee....kooo," so anyone in space would make those noises. I did not hear anything like that on the youtube videos, but who knows? I guess I really can't discount any strange happenings in space due to lack of personal experience.

Does your family have an evacuation plan? Of the Zombie type?

Forget the traditional fire evacuation plan! It sounds like we all should be focusing on the zombie apocalypse evacuation plan. Avery was looking through a magazine tonight, excited to find a "zombie" sweatshirt. What?! You might ask. Well, he informed me, "Mom, the only way to survive the zombie apocalypse is to blend in." Ah geez, he is serious about this stuff. According to a knowledgeable 14 year old

, it sounds like we need a snow plow, bus, and diesel in order to manage during the zombie invasion. Allow me to share advice; IF the world is bombarded by zombies, find a young teenager. It seems like they have the info we need.

Another try

Inspired by my amazing sis-in-law's family blog, I have decided to give this one more shot. Although I have a polar opposite perspective than she (3 young girls close in age, as opposed to my 3 boys all at different stages,) I love that she uses her blog as a type of "scrapbook." The history she will leave through the blog is so enduring and special. Being a big fan of digital scrapbooks, I found a site that will print a blog. What a great idea!
